Hello!

I have a question for you.

Isabelle use to be really bad with taking her eye out. She would take it out whenever she felt like it. We would lose it all the time, it would get stuck in her carseat, you name it, it happened to us...well except for her swallowing it, although last halloween, while we were in the car, she was choking on it. That was SCARY! So, to be on the safe side, we decided to take it out during nap and bed time. There was no issue with it, and we felt better.

Now that she is 2, she is doing SO much better with it! The only time she takes it out is when she's getting sleepy. Oh yeah, and when she's in time-out and doesn't get her way, she takes it out and throws it...(it takes everything in me not to laugh!) But for the most part she keeps it in.

Now, to my question. When we took it out to sleep, she would wake with no goop. I just noticed the past week, since we have been letting it in, she's waking up with a green goopy eye. Why does that happen? Is it ok if we still leave it out at night? She hates when we try to clean it off. I'm going to mention something to the Dr. (we go in 2 weeks), but I thought I'd get it first hand from someone here!

Thanks so much!

Lauren

H,
Its not unusual to have a little discharge built up in the mornings but is sounds as though your daughter has more than normal. This could be caused by micro abrasions on the eye due to all the handling, especially when the eye is handled roughly. Tiny little scrapes and scratches on the surface will irritate the socket causing the excess discharge. Since you'll wait for several years before she is convinced to leave the eye in or take it out carefully, you may want to have her occularist polish the prosthesis far more frequently than the recommended once a year.

Our son suffers a lot for eye infections and green gloop pouring from it. We take antibiotics but it ssems that when it is analysed it appears to be a different infection and required different drugs??

What sort of lube would people suggest

I'm no doctor but wouldn't the antibiotics do a lot better if you gave them to your son instead of taking them yourselfs LOL LOL LOL LOL :D (Sorry couldn't resist *grin*)

Glad to hear your son is doing well :)
