hello
Just wanted to introduce myself im mummy to zack aged 3 who lost one eye to retinoblastoma at 9 months and since then has been clear of any tumors he is now begining to understand about his special eye as we call it as till now he assumed we all had one, but quite hard explaining to a 3 year old and very emotional. We live in london and get his prosthesis done by Paula Gladdon who is excellent.

Just found this website yesterday as was looking for a book on helping to explain to zack about his eye really glad to have found the website and read all the stories as sometimes its very hard to think about the future, but zack is one in a million and we havnt stopped him doing anything because of it he loves going to football classes (even though his consultant said we shouldnt let him play footbal) and swimming classes but very protective over him and he is starting nursery in September.

Look forward to being an active member .

Take care
Ayesha

Welcome to the site!

Sorry to hear about your son, but it's great that your letting him do things he loves. :) He'll grow up knowing he can do most things binocular kids can do. He's just a little unique!

Best wishes,
Tina

Hi and welcome,

Can you tell us more about the ocularist? Where is she located and how much does it cost.. roughly. If you don't mind sharing that is.

Hi Ayesha,

Welcome aboard the ship that is Losteye.com!

Where abouts in London are you? Im living out in the eastern sticks!lol.

Like Eric said we have a bunch of Mam's here on behalf of their kids, so you are bound to find some common ground there.

Good news that you found a good ocularist - Ive heard only good things about Paula Gladdon.

Anyways,

Enjoy the site!

Elizabeth.

Hiya
no of course i dont mind she charges 1000 pounds per eye we are roughly going thorugh 1 each year but she is excellent and during the year she will shape and mould it again included in the cost i.e if we feel the eye has gone to small or his grown a bit. It normally takes her about 6-7 appointments to get the shape and size correct. but she is very good where if teh eye is suddenly moving out of place quite often she will see us in less then a week and shape it again we live in southe ast london greenwich.

Hi. My daughter will be 3 in October. She lost her left eye to retinoblastoma, too, just after she turned 2. I'm sure you and I have similar issues to deal with. I have gotten so much information and support from this site. Welcome!

Thanks for the info. I contacted Paula Gladden. £1700.. ouch! and lots of appointments needed. I really wanted someone who would do this thing quickly. Where I am they are okay in the end but the time between appointments is loooooong and I'm fed up with waiting for a decent result.
