I have just taken my 5 year old to see the consultant today regarding her implant exposure. the plan is for surgery in the next 6 weeks, we are unsure which route to travel. Laura had enucleation 2 years ago for retinablastoma. Our Options are to see if there is enough conjunctival tissue around the capsule to release and bring out and suture over the defect. Or to go for some form of patch perhaps some of her own fascia. Does anyone have experience of these procedures? Karen :( :(

If it were me I wouldn't feel that I had the experience or knowledge to make such a decision. I've always taken the advice of the consultant oculoplastic surgeon.

I had this operation done twice.
They took a tissue graft from the roof of my mouth. THe second op was successful.

It is painless to the socket, but the graft from the mouth was quite sore for about a week, makes it hard to eat too.

If you have any other questions, pelase ask.
