Has anyone gone through this procedure?

What are the risks/complications?

I had this implanted due to retinal detachment and now I want it out to get rid of the pain/discomfort.

Hi Noneother...I looked up this and found this for you from another site.Hope it helps...Anyone Had Scleral Buckle Removed???

I posted a comment a couple of months ago stating the pain I endured after the buckle was put on and I was in bed for 10 weeks. My specialist could not figure out what the problem was so she sent me over to a group of retina specialists/surgeons that specialize in their own field. Like one may do the muscle, another nerve damage, another retina, etc. Anyway, come to find out the buckle has broken and fallen down into my eyelid. I believe it is the center of the buckle as he explained the plastic part. Well, tomorrow, I am having another laser surgery to ensure the retina will stay attached during an upcoming surgery I will have to remove the scleral buckle. I said I would never have another surgery after the buckle but this Dr told me it was imperative to have it removed or I would get infections, etc. Since the surgery, this new Dr said I have nerve damage, muscle issues, a cataract, glaucoma in the eye that had surgery and a hundred other issues. But, I am scared to death over the removal of the buckle. Anyone have it and what was the outcome? Since the surgery, I can not see at all in this eye as it has squished it down (the buckle) and changed the shape and look of my eye. I wear a patch all the time as it is so horrible that I am embarrassed to have anyone look at me the way it is. With the buckle removal will the shape of my eye come back to normal again? How long should I expect to be down? Let me know your experience soon as they want to do this surgery immediately and ANY advice would be helpful! Thanks. Mary 8)

thanks.

damn doctors didn't tell me the options. this buckle procedure is way to invasive. had I been informed there were temporary balloon buckles I'd not have agreed to it.
