Hi Everyone:

I went in for my 6 month eye cleaning last Tuesday. Every morning since then I wake up with my eyelids crusted over/shut with eye goop. I haven't really had problems with this since I had my enucleation in Sept. 2011. I have on occasion had a cold and eye mucus with it but that is not the case right now.

Has anyone had this happen before after a cleaning at the ocularist? Should it be a cause for concern? I'll probably give it another week but if it keeps up I'll get in touch with the doctor, I just thought I'd check here and see if anyone had any words of wisdom.

I hope you all enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving Holiday with friends and family. Mine was great :)

Charmaine

I too had similar symptoms after I went back in and they adjusted my prosthesis. I think my eye socket had to get use to rubbing in different spots. It lasted almost 2 weeks and I even had a little swelling under the lid. But after my eye adjusted, it went away.

I've not had that experience with any cleaning, so I'd give them a call.

The last time I went in for a cleaning, the technician noticed a little mucus behind the prosthesis and put some drops in to "help" with that. I was uncomfortable for a few hours after that, so we won't be doing those drops again.

You remind me... time to call and schedule the next cleaning. ;)

HIYA I think this must be . the most asked question on L/E
AND I DONT BLAME YOU FOR ASKING...
It does happen after cleaning sometimes..
It does to me.. althought 4 weeks back i had mine cleaned and it was fine....
I wont go on and on.. but i use a bottle of saline ( from any pharmacy)
The type some contact uses use..
and a round cotton wool pad ( from any pharmacy)..
I gently hold edge of pad around eye lid and the mucus all goes..
Any way thats what i do . not just after cleaning but always,,

Hi All:

Yes it must have been from the cleaning and I think it has stopped. Yesterday only a very little bit of eye goop and today none.

@KeithDoug, I clean mine the same way, every morning :)

Thanks for the replies!

Charmaine

I've had a prosthetic for about 15 years now and I've had "mucus" since day one. It actually seems to be worse before a cleaning for me. Doc always told me it was normal..
