I'm in for a check - up Sept.11th (!!!). And I was just wondering - how can you tell if there are mets in the eye socket ? This freaks me out. Blood tests and liver scan was fine, but now I worry about the socket. I guess you all know the feeling.

I have never worried about it. My first ocularist told me that if the surgeon had been in any doubt about the possibility of it growing back he wouldn't have put an implant in. Then my eye was sent to pathology who reported that the tumour hadn't breached the eye wall or gone down the optic nerve and had been removed in its entirety. So I never gave the idea another thought.

Ann - that was comforting - thank you. Your story resembles mine so I'll hang on to what you said. But still - I suppose you go for checkups regarding the socket and your healthy eye ?

I'm not typical because I've always had problems with rejecting implants so have been seen regularly for that. I've also now got Lupus with Sjogren's Syndrome which, among other things, causes dry eye in my remaining eye so it is watched for damage caused by that and for possible side effects of the medication I'm taking for the lupus.

Oddly I have had no follow up by way of liver scans or chest xrays. I had both at the diagnosis but nothing afterwards. I don't know if it was just me who missed out on that or if it's normal not to get that sort of follow up here. I'm not concerned as I now have a blood disorder that goes along with the lupus and have regular (every couple of weeks) blood tests including liver function tests. It's also useful to know that the alcohol isn't doing any damage either :D
