Hi everyone! I've been reading round the message boards and thought it was probably a good idea to join! Well, now I have, I should probably introduce myself...

I'm a 19 year old student living in the North of England, and I've just finished the first year of a music degree at Durham University. I went blind in my right eye after a hockey accident just over two years ago, and also have half vision and no peripheral vision in my left eye (always had that, though). I'm finding that I'm still struggling with things involving depth perception, and I've I'm a lot less confident in sporting activities and large crowds (which is a right pain when you go on a night out or go shopping!). I was very sporty at school, and I've had to give up a lot of activities because I either don't feel confident enough or it's got a bit embarrassing when balls keep coming out of right field and hitting me! I'm so glad I found this forum: it's great to read about how everyone's managing with their loss of sight, and cliche though it sounds, it's reassuring and inspiring to know that so many people have the same problem and worse, and you're all just getting out there and enjoying life!

Anyway, that's me done, and I really can't think of an amusing or witty way to end this post...

eta: Oops. Editing to say my name's Louise. It feels strange to have people refer to me by a username!

Hi Astolante, nice to meet you. I also lost my vision in my left eye two years ago due to an accident. Though you're a wee bit younger than I, sounds like you are going through a lot of the same things(especially the shopping and large crowd thing). Welcome abroad and continue to post. All the best to you. Carlee
