Hi
my name is Dale and after my eigth surgery and a new medpor implant two weeks ago, I have a hole to the left side of my left eye and the implant can be seen. The doctor said I will have to go foe an emergancy skin graft to try to cover this implant. If it does not take, they will have to remove the implant. I am scheduled for surgery in 4 days but have no idea of where they take it from or the chances of it taking ?
please help.
desperate

Hello Dale,
One step at a time...and breathe! It might be a donor graft, then you will take it from there.
I wish you well.

Hi Dale; it is very normal to be stressed in your position but .........breathe. There is donor graft and someone here had some inner lip taken for the graft. If the rip is caught early the repair usually holds. I hope the op goes well. cheers vera

Dale, welcome to LE...there really is nothing you can do in terms of the technical aspect of your situation, so the one thing you can do is put yourself in a healing frame of mind.

Be with your team (the doctors that are working to do what they can for you)...ask questions so that you are clear as to what is their plan and what steps will be taken. Try to think of the best outcomes...and this will make your journey to the best possbile outcome more possible and much less stressful.

We wish you well and people here will try to answer any questions you might have.

Luciano

Hello Dale and welcome to LE.

As for a skin graph, everyone has different healing capabilities. I guess it does depend on where it is and where the graph is coming from. I had several graphs done on my foot for a foot ulcer with good success. Maybe it doesn't compare to the eye or being on the face but that is all I have to offer. The best you can do is keep the area clean and do all they tell you to do. A little piece of advice I was told...If you have no diet restrictions eat plenty of protein, it promotes healing. Much luck to you and let us know how things go. Take care and have a wonderful day.

Elaine
