I can't tell you much from a personal standpoint since I was "involuntarily" enucleated in an automobile wreck years ago. However, using the search button on the navbar above and plugging in the search terms scleral and shell I come back with a whopping 750+ returns HERE. You will undoubtedly want to refine the search :D

Many of our members are using shells and I'm sure they will be able to add their experiences. Welcome to LostEye, raldo. I'm sure we'll benefit from your participation. Let us know your adventures with the new prosthesis as they unfold. It will be a valuable addition to our database.

Stop in the Moolooh Lounge and get to know us. Tell us a little about your life in South Africa. We have at least one other member down thataway, Hagu13. He might respond to a PM. It's always dandy to speak to a fellow countryman

Hello Raldo and welcome to LE.

I don't have a shell but many here do. I lost my eye to complications of diabetes. Yes, I think this site has been a blessing for many and has brought many people to terms with living monocular. There is a ton of information available here and if there are any specific questions you have just ask, someone will answer. I wish you well with your new shell and hope it is working out well for you. Is this your first shell? Best wishes and take care. Good day to you.

Elaine

Hi Raldo; welcome to this great community. I had enucleation due to eye cancer and have a full prosthetic eye. Keeping it clean is the mean thing; I wear mine full time and don't bother it much; less handled the better. However; I know shell users are slightly different and some can only wear them for short times and others take it out at night. We have quite a few shell users; Aunt Lisa and Stretchaz so I'm sure you will hear from other shell users here. Mike also goes to your Continent from time to time; last time it was research into mosquitos. Cheers vera

Hi Vera

Great community indeed. The shell comfortabilty is not my problem, on my first day which was the 20th of April this year I had it in for eight hours straight without even knowing about it. Its just it was fitted and looked fine but during the course of the day it seems to have shifted and looked a bit bug eyed (LOL). I took it out put it back in it wil be straight but as soon as I blink it will move to the right and stay there. Having a appointment scheduled in a months time maybe it will be sorted. will be back with updates. Maybe being a first timer I'm just doing something wrong still struggling with the in and out.

Raldo

Hi Raldo; I wonder if it gets dry and when you blind your eye lid moves it? I dont know anything about the shells, but do know my new acrylic eye gets dry and my eye lid drags on it, just a thought. I hope you find the answer soon, there are a lot of people here to help you as they have me. Best of luck. Jill

Hi Raldo; maybe it's just settling in and I hope at your next appointment you get some answers. Ask if you need to lubricate it. cheers vera
