Hello to all!!!

My name is Sean, orignally from the UK but now at home in France

Really pleased to have come across this site today. And look forward to becoming familar with other people who can identify with the various day-to-day rigours having site in one eye can throw at you.

12 years ago I suffered a glass injury to my right eye. The surgeons were able to put my eye back together but after several unsuccessful attemps were unable to attach my retina. At first I wasn't overly concered with how my eye looked as it was still in line with the other, and where as I had two blue eyes before, one was black/green after the op. Like a large pupil! And I enjoyed full movement

As I have gotten older, now 30, my right is drifting a lot like a lazy eye. I still enjoy movement but it is slowly eating away at my confidence and I feel like I'm constantly rubbing the eye to cover how it looks, or looking at people side-on so as to hide the full extent of deterioration.

So my question is I suppose- Is there a surgery out there that could improve the way I look whilst still using the muscles in my eye. To kind of give me the most natural looking outcome???

Sorry to go on a bit long!!!

Hope to hear from someone soon,

Sean

Hello and welcome Sean.
There is an operation that can re-aligne your eye, talk to your Ophthalmologist.
Best wishes

Hi Moby, thanks for your sharp reply. I'm aware of such an operation but i suppose I would like to look as normal as possible agaiN. Specifically as i'm concerned about it shrinking

This strabismus surgery has very good results, sometimes it has to be done again. My blind eye turns out too, just a tad, but I wear glasses and am old enough, not to give a damn. :)

Shrinking seems to be a separate problem. I would recommend seeing an eye doctor as once the eye starts to shrink you will start needing to be aware of cosmetic options. Some people, not all, also will have some significant pain with shrinking.

In terms of just looks, you can do surgery, or, I think a shell could be an option, although as it is cosmetic, probably not covered by insurance.

Hi Sean and welcome to LE. Yes there is an op and you should talk to your eye specialist. Cosmetically you could get a shell made by an occularist if your eye can tolerate it or there is painted contact lens. Speak to your eye doc and an occularist to see what can be done to improve the look of your eye. You could also PM our resident eye specialist here; his name is cslonim. I hope you find a solution you are happy with. cheers vera

seanyboy:
the suggestions already given are certainly worth trying. i will add a couple of thoughts. if your retinal surgery required a sceral buckle (silicone band around the eye) then strabismus surgery will be more difficult (not impossible) to perform. a scleral shell (as was already mentioned) can be made so that your pupils/eyes will be aligned even if your natural eye underneath the shell is turned out. a third suggestion (depending on how turned out your eye is) might be the use of prisms in your glasses. i am assuming that you are wearing protective glasses because you only have one good eye. optical prisms can be placed in the lenses of your glasses that can give the optical illusion (to those looking at you) that your eyes are straight. this is dependent on the amount of out-turning because the more out-turned the eye, the thicker the edge of the prism will be. good luck.
