Just wanted you to know that I used Mager & Gougleman and was very pleased. I believe his named was David Gougelman. The color is perfect and people can't tell which eye is blind.

Greetings, I am new to the board but have hovered a bit in the past.

I have a shell, have worn one since I was 5 years old, congenital cataract, detached retina to follow and 45 years later, have met with several ocularists. Most of them in California.

I have flown to out of my area for a new eye and am having trouble seeing "eye-to-eye" with the new ocularist about what the outcome should be. I had to be nearly brutal today about my true feelings that I wouldn't wear it as is and that I'd feel like a freak. Changes were made and we are making progress.

This is the most challenging time I have ever faced with a prosthesis. I had one experience where I was disatisfied and never wore an eye I had made, it was bugging out of my head; so I went and had another made, it worked well for 5 years.

I empathize with you so much. I'd really like to see a website for consumers where thoughts, discussion and evaluation of end results can be shared. I am not feeling very good right now about my progress. Seems I've spent more time healing my socket with tears the past few days than anything.

I have a drooping lid, the ocularist thinks its perfect. I didn't have a drooping lid when I got here with my good old stock eye. Which was the first time I'd ever had one and didn't even know that they existed until a few weeks ago when I was told that was how my last one was made. I was shocked! We need a website on how to prepare for a visit to the ocularist, questions to ask, how to talk about money, when to pay and how much to leave as a deposit.

Here's the worst. I paid over 3 times the usual cost of a shell for this one, for this new technology that isn't yielding the stellar outcome that I had hoped for, been told it would yield--expectations not met. Talk about disappointment! They do however, get an A for effort. The final grade is still pending as I return tomorrow.

I have ocularist fatigue.

Ditto..... see my other posts.. I cannot say enough good about David to begin to explain how impressed I am by his skill and professionalism.

I used Gougelman's services when I first lost my eye, over 30 years ago. He (Henry Gougelman) worked on famous people (Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Falk, etc...) and he came highly recommended. He became family to me! I used his services for about 18 years, until it was suggested to me to try Annette Kirszrot, and she's been excellent. She's a true artist. She goes the extra mile, and she's extremely professional.

Not to say anything bad about Mr. Gougelman's practice, but when HE did the work, it was very good, and then his children and their spouses, etc., took over and I was none too happy.

Hope you find a good ocularist. It's important!
