WEnt yesterday for my first fitting and i was very impressed with Robin and he was so helpful and spend a long time talking to me and telling me all the options.
My socket is so small but he is going to try and get as big an eye as possible.
I was fascinated when he started to paint hte iris when i was there and showed my husband and i the finished result it was fantastic and looked so like my other eye.
I go back next Monday for the second fitting and this is when he is going to try and do something with my eyelids, a little tweaking he said.
The finished eye will be ready on the 22nd this month amazing eh.
The total cost will be £1100 and will ahve to be paid when the eye is ready and by the way he said it could take up to a year to hear from the primary trust care to see if they will fund it which is not such good news but maybe i willhear from my MP before that.
Will keep you updated

just a little update , i went yesterday for y 2nd fitting and the care and attention to detail this man takes compared to the NHS is unbelievable he spent ages putting the mould in and out to make sure it is as near perfect as my funny socket will let him.
He did say that i may have to have an extra visit so he can have a bit more time to work on it but is hopeful it will be ok when i go on the 22nd.
I hope he is right as it is a 340 mile round trip and yesterday i was very tired so i don't know how my hubby and son (who shared the driving) must have felt as the weather was terrible and changed between rain sleet and heavy snow showers all the way home.We were away from home from 10.30am till 9.15pm. Can have a little rest today and have to go to the cancer hospital tomorrow for check up

Anne-

That is great news that he is working so hard on your behalf. As a husband of a monocular wife, I think I can speak for your hushand and son to say an all day drive in sleet and snow is a SMALL price to pay for you to get the care and final outcome you deserve. When I go with Gayle I drive the poor ocularist crazy asking questions and pointing things out and he is so good about telling us what the longer term plan is for the eye, lids , etc. So kudos to you and your family for walking the journey together - you continue to be in our thoughts and prayers!

Bob

Bob--it's sweet to hear your perspective! You're wonderful!!

Anne--SO glad you're getting the care you deserve!! I've been through very similar situations, where my DH has to drive 2 hours away in bad weather, just to sit there at the ocularist's office with me while they try to work on me. We try to make a day of it, and go out to eat. We even bring the children with us! It's nice that you appreciate what he does for you. It's times like those that make us realize how special our families really are! YOU'RE WORTH IT though, so, just rest up when you can and let us know how the finished product comes out!!

Big {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to you!!

Going tomorrow for the final fitting and hopefully to come home with a new eye.
I am so worried in case i am expecting too much from this man and i could end up really disappointed which will break my heart.
If the eye is awful how do i tell him, but probably my expression will do that for me.
Haven't been sleeping for worrying about this and my agp has put me on sleeping tablets for 10 nights to try and get me over this.
Will keep you informed
