People with a cosmetic shell, do you use artificial tears if so how often? Do you have to use more when its windys or hot?

What are the best brands?

I find Systene to be very good?

I use hypromellese (I pretty certain it's not spelt like that but thats how it sounds lol)

I only really use them if I'm tired and the eye gets gritty

We've had a lot of luck recommending Systane to our patients. Jim Strass in New York makes a really nice artificial eye lubricant also that your ocularist can order for you. It's a little heavier viscosity than some of the over the counter stuff and works well for some people.

I use Minims Artificial Tears, they come as individual units and their active ingredient is Hydroxyethylcelluose.

They were prescribed for me because they are preservative free, as drops with preservatives in them arent the wisest choice for those wearing lenses.

You can have a month's supply prescribed, which works out pretty economical with the NHS Prescription charge.

Hi; I'm with Irishangel; my specialist told me to get any drops but that they had to be preservative free; I ust them only in certain conditions; hot/air-conditioner running all day which drys my eye out; cheers Vera

My doctor prescribe me drops with preservatives in for my bad eye and no preservatives for my good eye. What are the good points and bad points of the two. Also if you use them very often can your eye get use to them so you need to use more often?

The preservatives can be irritating to the eye if you have to use them a lot. I have just been prescribed Celluvisc for dry eye in my good eye but I also use them in the prosthetic eye. They are in individual containers and as IrishAngel says they are much cheaper on prescription.
